Have you ever wondered, “if my cat could talk, what would they say to me?”
Given all the buzz around AI these days, I sometimes like to run things by Chat GPT.
I particularly enjoy asking questions that are existential in nature or, even better, impossible to answer. For example, today I asked it to opine on the following:
“If our pet cats could talk, what are the top 3 things they would most likely say?”
As usual, it’s response was a mixed bag – equal parts conjecture and truth. Here are the top 3 things our cats can’t wait to get off their chest, and my takeaway for each.
“Feed me on time!”
Cats are creatures of habit, and they would definitely let us know if we’re late with their meals. They might also subtly (or not) remind us that their gourmet tastes go far beyond just “cat food” and would happily accept a slice of your lunch.

Cat Chaddy Takeaway: according to cat guru Jackson Galaxy, the three R’s (Routines, Rituals, and Rhythm) are key to giving our cats a good life. Feeding meals at approximately the same time each day goes a long way towards satisfying all three.
Bonus Pro-tip: in addition to a consistent feeding schedule, playing with your cats just before mealtime can improve their digestion. It’s also the best way to simulate a real hunt, which of course is the main reason we play with our cats to begin with.
“That spot on the couch? It’s my spot.”
Cats love to stake out their territory, and they would likely have a few thoughts on where they want to sleep, perch, or claim as their own. Expect to hear about how they deserve that prime sunbeam spot, the best cushion, or even your lap when you’re least expecting it.

Cat Chaddy Takeaway: territorial “ownership” is the foundation upon which your cat’s happiness stands. It is the equivalent to physiological safety in Maslow’s hierarchy. Cats have an instinctual need to secure territory first before any other needs can be met.
Many common feline behavioral issues can be traced back to an inadequate sense of territorial security.
“More attention, please—on my terms.”
While cats enjoy affection, they’re very particular about when and how it’s delivered. They’d likely make it clear when they want petting, when they want you to stop, and when they feel it’s time for some space.
If they’re feeling especially chatty, they might even share why the exact spot behind your ear is the best for head scritches.

Cat Chaddy Takeaway: cats often get mislabeled as antisocial creatures – this couldn’t be further from the truth. Not only do cats thrive on social interactions, but most require at least some amount of daily attention from their human.
This is especially true for single-cat households, where you’re basically their entire world!
Of course, this is just the beginning. They’d likely have a lot more to say about our behavior, their environment, and perhaps some grievances about the lack of treats.
They might offer some pointers on proper chin scratching technique, or scoff at our inability to grasp the subtle art of the “slow blink.” Which, they would add, is only more embarrassing than our inability to hold their attention when it’s time to play.
Finally, they would tell us how they loathe those godforsaken trips to the vet, highlighting the importance of regularly practicing carrier training your with cat. Oh, and how there seems to be a shortage of real mice around the house.
What do you think? If your cats could talk, does this seem like what they might say? And would you even want your cats to have this ability if it were an option?
