Cute Cat Playing with Cat Toy

Each year, the cat toy industry introduces a vast array of new products designed to engage, stimulate, and entertain our furry friends. Unfortunately, most of them will miss the mark, and sifting through all that junk to find only the winners is costly and time consuming.

Luckily for you, playing with cats is our business. And part of our mission is to discover, test, and review the latest and greatest cat toys in the world.

This year was particularly challenging, thanks to tariffs and other trade restrictions. Many of our previous picks and all-time favorites were out of stock for months. But instead of viewing this as an obstacle, we saw it as an opportunity to completely refresh our entire list.

Each of the following toys caters to a cat’s natural instincts. The majority also provide opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation, promoting a healthier and happier lifestyle. With no further ado, these are our top picks for best cat enrichment toys in 2026.

The 10 Best Cat Enrichment Toys

1. Sheer Fun for Cats – BEST OVERALL

At the top of our list (again) is Sheer Fun for Cats, our unanimous pick for the best overall cat enrichment toy! Admittedly, when we first got our paws on one we weren’t quite sure what to think – is it a toy? A playmat? A toy enhancer?!

Turns out it’s all of these things – and more! We stay impressed with just how versatile, unique, and durable this product is.

It also comes with a few strips of Velcro and a wiffle ball attachment which is super fun for starters. Fawn was a big fan (see video above). But really the possibilities here are limited only by your imagination.

Perhaps the best thing about Sheer Fun for Cats is its unique ability to breath new life into old toys. Simply lay it on top of a turbo scratcher, toy mouse, or anything else that has lost its luster with your finicky felines, and like magic, old toys suddenly seem new again.

Pros
✅ Versatile design provides options
✅ Makes old toys seem like new
✅ Small business that loves cats
Cons
🚫 Only available in one color

2. Purrdee Wall Mounted Cat Scratcher

cat peeking from behind wall near wall-mounted scratcher with colorful design

The Purrdee Wall Mounted Cat Scratcher is a relatively new, innovative addition to the wonderful world of cat enrichment toys. From the moment we got ours, we know it would be a hit not only with cats, but also their guardians too.

That’s because it’s equal parts form and function: a vertical cat scratcher disguised as a work of art – brilliant if you ask us! Plus, it comes in four different designs inspired by iconic artwork to match just about any style of decor (“Great Wave” is pictured above).

Made from wood and extra durable sisal, the Purrdee Wall Scratcher is built to last and won’t leave a shredded mess behind like cheap cardboard. The included adhesive mounting strips make installation a breeze, and zero wall damage make it extremely renter-friendly.

Its versatility, durability, and stylish design make it an excellent choice for providing cats with comprehensive enrichment. Additionally, gift-ready packaging makes it a thoughtful present for any cat-loving home.

Pros
✅ Promotes healthy claws and reduces destructive scratching
✅ Thoughtful design and beautiful packaging make it a great gift idea
✅ Small business that loves cats
Cons
🚫 Might not be suitable for cats that don’t prefer sisal

3. GoCat ‘Da Purr-Peller’ Cat Toy

GoCat Da Purrpeller Cat Enrichment Toy

When my cats were younger, I could keep them engaged at playtime with just about any wand or fishing pole style toy.

However, as my kittens grew into cats, they became increasingly discerning about their (make believe) prey and I struggled to hold their attention for long. That’s when I discovered Da Purr-Peller by GoCat.

Da Purr-Peller is a premium wand toy made for interactive play. My cats simply cannot get enough of them. As far as replicating the movement and appearance of a real bird, these are probably as good as it gets.

My only gripe is that they are not bult to last. My cats can destroy one, at least to the point that they lose interest, in just a few (very rough) play sessions. Fortunately, we were able to find a suitable alternative that will not break the bank…

Pro Tip: once you have a compatible rod, opt for knock-off replacement feather attachments that cost significantly less than the original.

Pros
✅ Spinning motion mimics real bird
✅ All-natural feathers
✅ Made in USA (unlike most cat toys)
Cons
🚫 Not the most durable cat toy on the market

4. Peomliee Turbo Scratcher – BEST FOR KITTENS

circular track toy with scratching pad (Turbo Scratcher) designed for kittens

As far as the best solo cat toys go, the turbo scratcher is tough to beat. We have two. One is actually a leftover from my first cat, who’s no longer with us – these things simply last forever. That’s because the cardboard center piece is reversable.

After your cats have had their way with it and it’s no longer recognizable, simply flip it over and voila – it’s like new again. They also sell replacement inserts, though I’ve yet to need one (it’s been over a decade)!

Pros
✅ Great for cats and kittens of all ages
✅ Helps save furniture and carpets
✅ Long-lasting, reversable design
Cons
🚫 Some cats may lose interest after extended use

5. Potaroma Hide and Seek Cat Toy

Hide And Seek Cat Toy Potaroma

The Hide and Seek cat toy by Potaroma is a fun, unique toy for the active cat or kitten, or those that need a little more excitement in their solo-hunting game.

Powered by a USB-chargeable battery, this cat enrichment toy “scurries” under the cover, stimulating cats’ natural hunting instinct. With three modes to choose from (plus an optional mouse-like squeak), it’s sure to entice even the most finicky felines.

Both Fawn and Arya were really entertained at first, but began to lose interest (as cats do) over time. Fortunately, it comes with one additional feather attachment to help extend its useful life.

An all around fun toy while it lasted and a good way to provide some entertainment for your cats when you’re busy.

Pros
✅ Suitable for cats of all ages
✅ Mimics natural prey movements
✅ Engages and stimulates your cat’s prey drive
Cons
🚫 Some cats may lose interest after extended use

6. Cancor Cat Crinkle Balls

Best Cat Toys 2025 Crinkle Balls

These Cat Crinkle Balls from Cancor were perhaps the most polarizing amongst all the toys we tested. That’s because one of my cats (Fawn) ignores them, while the other (Arya) is borderline obsessed.

Arya loves to play fetch, and she will only play with these very specific toys. I know, she’s a weird cat; what can I say?

Crinkle balls are a great choice for kittens, or any cat that is typically into batting small toy mice, or crinkled up balls of paper. They are made of a unique material that is both soft and “crunchy” at the same time.

As a result, they are safer to leave out unattended than most other toys.

Pros
✅ Great for kittens and playful cats
✅ Durable; virtually indestructable
✅ Made from food grade material – safer than mylar and foil alternatives
Cons
🚫 Not all cats will be interested

7. The Original Cat Dancer – BEST VALUE

The Cat Dancer is a budget-friendly, cat guardian’s dream come true.

When someone first put us on to the Original Cat Dancer, we looked it up and immediately assumed it was junk, based solely on the price. Man, were we wrong.

To the contrary, this might just be the best thing you can do for your cat for under $5. Its simple design eliminates the need for additional attachments, making it ready for play right out of the box!

Although it’s not the most realistic toy, it’s unique motion is captivating. I like to break it out once in a while as a sort of change-up, just to keep things interesting. Both cats go nuts every time.

Pros
✅ Super simple yet effective
✅ Drives cats crazy
✅ Best bang for your buck
Cons
🚫Cardboard probably won’t hold up long for cats who play rough

8. Potaroma Catnip Pillow Kicker Toy

Best Cat Enrichment Toy Catnip Kicker

No list of the best cat enrichment toys would be complete without at least one high quality kicker: this one from Patoroma is our new favorite.

These irresistible catnip-filled “pillows” come in packs of three, making them a great choice for solo and multiple cat households alike. They are soft and covered in faux fur with no small parts or sharp edges, making them appropriate for cats of all ages.

Patoroma’s catnip pillows are one of the few toys that both of my cats agree on. Which is nice, because kicking is an important instinctual behavior and these seem to really scratch that itch.

Last but not least, they are super affordable, making them easier on the wallet. A true win-win if you ask us!

Pros
✅ Designed for extreme durability
✅ Suitable for cats of all ages
✅ Satisfies instinctual urge to kick
Cons
🚫 Only come in packs of three; minimal color options

9. Catstages Buggin’ Out Puzzle & Snack Cat Toy – BEST FOR SENIORS

The Catstages Buggin’ Out Puzzle & Snack Cat Toy is a cleverly designed (and visually appealing) food puzzle that engages your cat’s natural hunting and foraging instincts while offering a delightful snacking experience.

This is our best pick for seniors as it provides an easy way to integrate curiosity and play without requiring excessive physical effort. Plus, it provides cats with immediate reinforcement in the form of snacks! A real win/win if you ask us…

This toy features three colorful bug-shaped compartments, each with a hidden compartment underneath. You can place your cat’s favorite treats or kibble inside, and as your cat bats, paws, and explores the toy, they will uncover and enjoy the tasty surprises within.

This toy not only provides mental stimulation but also rewards your cat’s efforts with a satisfying snacking experience, making it an excellent addition to your cat’s enrichment repertoire. However, some cats may quickly figure out how to access treats, making it less challenging over time.

Pros
✅ Encourages problem-solving and foraging behavior
✅ Promotes a rewarding snacking experience
✅ Durable and easy to clean
Cons
🚫 May be less challenging over time

10. Laser Pointer (ANY)

best cat enrichment toys are not laser pointers
Laser pointers are a poor choice in general, and should only be used as a last resort.

Last, but also least, are the insidious laser pointer cat toys. More appropriate for giving a powerpoint presentation than playing with your cat, we did not actually evaluate any laser pointers for this post. That’s because, as you may know, I loathe them.

In fact, the only reason my cats even know that laser pointers exist is because my (former) cat sitter dug one out from the bottom of the toy closet when I was away and used it before I had a chance to interject.

If you still insist on using a laser pointer for some strange reason, please give your cat something tangible to “catch” at the end. Otherwise, a laser pointer is nothing but a huge tease that negates most of the benefits that typically come from playing with your cat.

Pros
✅ Possibly better than nothing?
Cons
🚫 More stress than satisfaction
🚫 Cats can never “win”
🚫 It’s a freakin’ laser

Buyer’s Guide: Choosing the Best Cat Enrichment Toys

Still not sure which to choose? Why not start with our Best Overall pick here.

What are Cat Enrichment Toys?

Cat enrichment toys are specially designed toys and devices aimed at stimulating your cat’s senses, satisfying their natural instincts, and preventing boredom. These toys go beyond simple entertainment; they’re essential tools for maintaining your cat’s overall well-being both physically and mentally.

Cat Instincts Explained

Understanding your cat’s instincts is crucial when selecting the right enrichment toys for them. Cats are natural-born hunters, so toys that mimic prey, such as feathered wands or moving mice can satisfy their predatory instincts.

They also have a strong desire to explore and climb, making cat trees and window hammocks both excellent choices. As intelligent and curious creatures, cats also enjoy mental challenges, so puzzle feeders can provide both nourishment and mental stimulation.

What Kind of Enrichment Toys Are Available?

The world of cat enrichment toys continues to expand with new and exciting innovations. Here are some popular options:

Interactive Puzzle Toys

These toys engage your cat’s cognitive abilities by requiring them to solve a puzzle to access treats or kibble. They stimulate their problem-solving skills, providing mental exercise that can reduce boredom and prevent destructive behavior.

Feathered Wands and Fishing Pole Toys

These toys mimic the movements of birds or prey animals, tapping into your cat’s hunting instincts. Cats love to stalk and pounce on the feathers or toys, promoting physical activity and satisfying their natural predatory urges.

Cat Trees and Climbing Structures

Cat trees offer multi-level platforms, scratching posts, and hiding spots. They cater to your cat’s desire to explore, climb, and perch up high, promoting exercise and providing a safe space for observation and relaxation.

Cat Wall Climbing Enrichment

Electronic Motion Toys

Robotic toys like mice or butterflies mimic the erratic movements of prey animals, stimulating your cat’s hunting instincts. They encourage pouncing and swatting, providing both exercise and mental engagement.

Treat Dispensers

These toys combine feeding with play. Your cat must interact with the toy to access hidden treats or kibble, encouraging both physical activity and problem-solving skills. They can also alleviate boredom and provide a rewarding snacking experience.

Does My Cat Really Need Enrichment Toys?

While not an absolute necessity (unless, you know, you want your cat to thrive), enrichment toys are highly beneficial for cats. They provide important mental stimulation to keep your cat’s mind active, which is particularly important for indoor cats.

These toys also encourage physical exercise, helping cats maintain a healthy weight and reducing the risk of obesity-related health issues. They even help prevent many undesirable behaviors, channeling your cat’s natural instincts in a constructive way.

How Do I Choose Which Is Best for My Cat?

Selecting the right enrichment toy for your cat involves considering their age, personality, and activity level.

Kittens and more active cats may favor interactive toys like feathered wands, while senior cats could benefit from puzzle feeders that engage their minds without too much physical effort.

Remember, every cat is unique, with their own preferences and personality. Pay attention to what your cat likes and adjust accordingly. Finally, always prioritize safety by choosing toys made from non-toxic materials and inspecting them regularly for wear and tear.

Final Thoughts

The best cat enrichment toy is really whatever gets your kitty going.

Since every cat is unique, it may take some trial and error before you find “the one” that resonates most with them. That said, Sheer Fun for Cats is our best overall pick due to its versatility and the variety of experiences it can provide.

It always thrills us to receive feedback from readers who see an improvement in their cat’s behavior almost immediately. But the real reward will be less health problems down the line and a longer, happier life for your furry friend.

Finally, have some fun while you’re at it! If you approach this like another chore you are obliged to do, your cat will sense it. I mean, come on – it’s called playtime for a reason!

*Note: Always supervise your cat during play. Since every toy is different, refer to its packaging for specific safety instructions. Never leave toys out unattended, especially those with small parts that can be swallowed.

If ever you suspect that your cat has ingested a toy, seek emergency medical care immediately.
